This assignment requires Part A and Part B. You must do both parts to get full credit for this exercise. (I am the team leader for this assignment, please do it as best you can and I will add to it for other teams members
Part A
Needs Assessment
Your team is to design an online training needs assessment to help assess the organization’s training needs. Your needs assessment should be based on the research that your group conducts on best practices for designing an online training needs assessment. The goal is to collect information that will help you to build your online training. This assessment will be shared with the host organization who will respond to the questions asked. You can consult with the organization’s representative about their ability to respond to the needs assessment prior to designing it. The assessment can be qualitative or quantitative in nature (or a mixed design).
Do your research and find the best strategy for designing your needs assessment to fit this specific training situation. Here are several websites that you might find helpful:

After you have completed your needs assessment, ask one member of your group to submit it here.
Part B

Your “Teamwork” assignment contains two parts: 1. Diversity ice breaker, 2. Training planning (which includes choosing a general topic for your training and a Needs Assessment assignment). Both of these activities together are worth 65 points. All team members will receive the same grade for this assignment.
Note: You can reduce the amount of meeting time by reading the assignment instructions before the meeting (and emailing for clarification if needed). You could also come to your meeting with suggested questions for your needs assessment.
Each Team must submit meeting notes using the template provided to verify that the team met. Only one member of each team needs to submit the notes.
Module 2 Teamwork Meeting Notes Template
1. Diversity Ice Breaker: Play I am, but I am not, and submit a bulleted summary of your discussion questions.
The game I Am, But I Am Not tackles misconceptions head-on.
Here’s how to play:
- Ask each team member to create two columns (this can be done on paper or on the computer), with one titled “I Am” and the other titled “But I Am Not.”
- Ask team members to fill in the columns with true statements about themselves. For example, someone might write, “I am a male, but I am not emotionless.” Or, “I am a female, but I am not weak.”
- Take turns sharing your responses to start a great discussion on diversity.
These answers can be quite personal, so it’s important to be sensitive and kind when people offer to share.
Discussion Questions (submit a summary of your discussion):
- What happened during the activity? Were you surprised by anything?
- What might we draw from this exercise that can help us understand diversity and inclusion?
- What did you learn about your teammates from this activity?
- How can you apply what you learned to leading diverse teams?
2. Training Planning: Our class works with different organizations each term to design training.
For assignment details for this term, read Module 1: Training Planning, Module 2: Training Planning, and the Needs Assessment instructions.
Needs Assessment Assignment Due
After deciding on a general training topic based on the suggestions listed on the Module 1: Training Planning page and looking over the general format requirements and examples on the Module 2: Training Planning page, create a Needs Assessment and analysis for the organization to help you better understand its diversity-related challenges and opportunities. The needs assessment should help you better understand what needs to be included in your training.
Each Team must submit meeting notes using the template
provided to verify that the team met.
