WRITING YOUR ASSIGNMENT:

  • This assignment must be completed individually.
  • All courses of study must use the ARU Harvard referencing system for written assessments, apart from LLB/LLM courses where OSCOLA should be applied.
  • Your work must indicate the number of words you have used. Written assignments must not exceed the specified maximum number of words. When a written assignment is marked, the excessive use of words beyond the word limit is reflected in the academic judgement of the piece of work which results in a lower mark being awarded for the piece of work (regulation 6.74).
  • Assignment submissions are to be made anonymously. Do not write your name anywhere on your work.
    Write your student ID number at the top of every page.
    Where the assignment comprises more than one task, all tasks must be submitted in a single document.
  • You must number all pages.

ASSIGNMENT

You are a Human Capital Development Consultant that has been contracted by this organisation (one which you will select from among the list below). Your objective is to offer strategic advice to the newly appointed Board who will be relying on your expertise to guide them in understanding how their current leadership and culture impact the organisation’s human capital development and financial competitiveness.

YOUR TASKS

Through a written report the Board have asked you to:

  1. Help them to understand the impact that the current leadership style and culture within the organisation may have on the employees’ human capital development. You are expected to use relevant theoretical tools discussed in class and ones you research independently to arrive at your findings. No recommendations required at this stage (50 marks)
  2. Critically evaluate the relevance of emotional intelligence to teamwork within the organisation and recommend steps that management can adopt in order to enhance employees’ emotional intelligence (40 marks)
  3. Present a professionally and academically written report (10 marks)

Total: 100 Marks

Your report will be assessed with reference to the below criteria, as summarised in the tables below, based on ARU Level 7 generic grading criteria.

  1. A detailed and robust critical evaluation of the current leadership approach and culture of your selected organisation and how these impact on its human capital development. Relevant and appropriate theoretical frameworks must be applied (50 marks).
  2. A justifiable proposition of a best fit leadership strategy that will maximise human capital and guarantee stakeholder satisfaction (40 marks).
  3. A professional report enriched with critical discussions and supported by credible facts and academic literature (10 marks)
