WRITING PROJECT: Compare Contrast Essay
Tasks:
Choose two items associated with your class writing topic to compare/contrast.
Write a three-page, compare-contrast essay about the approved topic.
Expectations:
Your essay should be formatted using MLA, Version 9 guidelines.
Save your document as a PDF or MS Word document.
Turn your response in as an attachment using the drop box in the Compare Contrast Essay folder in Blackboard.
This essay should be written from a third-person point of view.
This essay should be written using literary present verb tense.
You should have in-text citations to any research used; you should have a works cited page.
Grading Rubric:
Grammar and Mechanics (20 points)
A = Response contains no major errors that affect readability.
B = Response has a few errors that at times affect readability, but those errors do not affect the overall meaning.
C = Response contains a pattern of errors that affect readability so much so that there is a slight loss of meaning throughout the paper.
D/F = Response contains a significant number of errors that strongly affect readability. The lack of proper usage suggests a lack of thorough proofing and editing.
Content (70 points)
A = Response is fully developed and organized. Essay is engaging, flows naturally, and is easy to read.
B = Response is mostly developed and well organized. Essay, at times, shows a slight break in organization and focus and could use some work in terms of transitions and solid support.
C = Response meets the minimum expectation in terms of development, flow, and train of thought.
D/F = Response shows lack of development and no clear path of organization.
MLA Formatting (10 points)
A = Essay is properly formatted using basic MLA style and formatting.
B = Essay has only a few minor errors in MLA style and formatting.
C = Essay is still rough in terms of MLA style and formatting.
D/F = Essay is not formatting using proper MLA style and formatting.
