This is a comparitive writing assignment similar to the 1st one.
The difference is that you take a song that you like —- it can be anything you want — describe it using ideas that we have discussed and then compare it to 2 songs that were discussed in the class any time since Week 2 – in other words Native American, African, Indian, Indonesian, Arab or Latin America.
If your song happens to already fit into one of the above categories, compare it to two others.
In the most basic formal terms — Pick Song 1 – describe its Music-Culture – compare and contrast it to Song 2 – then compare and contrast it to Song 3 — comment on any conclusions.
Like the first assignment the writing should be no less than 3 pages (750 or so words excluding bibliography and, if there is one, title page) and must include a bibliography showing the materials that you used for your research – be sure to visit the library’s online collection and of course you can use the textbook.
Try to be as intuitive as possible – write about what you hear but also include some background information and try to find sources that support your opinions.
