Thesis Scope:

The first step of the tentative thesis will be on setting up measurement scripts to measure the energy consumption of HEVC (H.265) Intra-coding using: (Further reading for HEVC can be found in High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC)_ Algorithms and Architectures)

  *   The x265 software encoder implementation(https://x265.readthedocs.io/en/master/), with energy measurements obtained using Intel RAPL (Measurement procedure and scripts will be provided,  has to be adapted accordingly to suit the task)

  *   The NVIDIA hardware encoder (https://wiki.seeedstudio.com/reComputer_J30_40_with_Jetson_getting_start/), with energy measurements collected using the LMG611 power meter (Measurement setup, procedure, and scripts will be provided; has to be adapted accordingly to suit the task)

After setting up and validating the measurement framework, the second part involves matching the encoding configurations of the software and hardware encoders to ensure comparable encoding settings. The final objective is to estimate the hardware encoder’s energy consumption based on the software encoder’s measured energy and/or associated parameters
