Tell us your story. What unique opportunities or challenges have you experienced throughout your high school career that have shaped who you are today?
1.challenge-the impact of racial injustice in America George Floyd, immigration, as I live in a bi racial family of immigrants .Black -Creole and Mexican
-I was accustomed to driving myself to school and after George Floyd I became paranoid and scared to drive. I felt unable to trust law enforcement who were supposed to protect me and now my teenage years were filled with fear and trepidation. Meanwhile, my Mexican family members were equally as scared. They feared law enforcement and Immigration law enforcement (ICAE). My family members who were citizens feared their continued existence and those who were seeking entry feared they would be denied.
2. challenge-health scare within family, how you contributed o help and how it impacted your ability to do well in school and sports anyway my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer I contributed by helping my mom by driving her to and from her appointments preparing and serving her diner and giving her, evening medications as needed
3. challenge-working 20 hours per week in high school while still succeeding in sports and school- I worked at FedEx during my junior through senior year to earn Some extra money for myself and ease the financial burden for my parents i had to manage a 20 hour work schedule every Sunday Monday Tuesday I had work after football practice from 6:00pm-11:00pm my job was being a package handler, I packaged ordered shipments into trucks to be sent to their destination it was hard labor especially after practice
4. challenge- balancing school and sports to be a 4 year letterman and made A/B honor roll, I was a team captain as well as 2022 and 2023 all district selection. GPA 4.9
