Winter 2024
Within your TYPED (double-spaced) paragraph, be sure to include the following:
Intro./Methods – 16 points
_________ 4 points – Goal or Research Question
_________ 4 points — What is your DV (sleep, walking, exercise, daily high temperatures)? Define it (e.g., Exactly what is considered exercise? With what devices were you measuring/recording it? Source of information if from website.) Also, state the unit of measurement for the DV (e.g., minutes, steps, miles, Fahrenheit temperature)
_________ 4 points – Time Period(s) of data collection and/or source of data stated and number of cases is sufficient (at least 14 cases for paired-samples option and at least 14 cases per time period group for independent-samples option).
_________ 4 points – Your prediction in plain English
Results – 39 points
_________ 3 points – State which t-test you conducted. Use the SPSS name of the t-test.
_________ 8 points – Include descriptive statistics, M and SD, in APA format for each sample.
_________ 2 points – Include the name of your DV (and unit of measurement)
_________ 2 points – Did your results match your prediction? If so, you can simply state “As predicted,” if not then state “Contrary to my prediction,” prior to the comparison sentence.
_________ 12 points – Comparison statement (e.g. does not differ, greater than, less than, etc.). Note that this component entails recognizing when the result is significant. If it is NOT significant, then there should be some statement reflecting that like “did not differ” or “was equivalent”, etc. You need to state what is being compared to what – two sample means, two conditions, a sample mean to a goal value.
_________ 12 points (Should include the correct degrees of freedom, the t-value, the significance, and be in the proper APA format: t(df) = t-value, p = .##.) +1 extra point if you properly include Cohen’s d at the end of the t-test.
