Law enforcement is given great leeway in off-duty situations and use-of-force encounters with the public. Some community partnerships help bring the community and law enforcement together, but these partnerships do not exist in every community.
Address the following questions:
How do you think that the Ahmaud Arbery case was handled from start to finish?
Should law enforcement take the word of a retired police officer without investigating?
Choose 2 other student responses, and explore the interference that took place initially before another state prosecutor took over the case. Explore ways to address transparency and accountability in the behavior between a prosecutor’s office and law enforcement investigations.
