COM200 Communication: The Key to Work

Week 5 Discussion

As many businesses shift to remote work, there is an increased need to utilize collaboration tools. At the end of this course, you will deliver a presentation trying to persuade your organization to adopt a collaboration tool of your choosing. To prepare for that presentation, think about a tool you regularly use to communicate with others, work collaboratively on a document, or manage a project. If you are not sure, do some research on collaboration tools that look fun and interesting to you.

Identify one effective collaboration tool and share your experience with using the selected tool in your personal or professional life. If you haven’t used the collaboration tool, share how you think this tool could be used to support communication and collaboration in the workplace.

Before you begin, review the reference table below for some examples of commonly used collaboration tools.

Examples of collaboration tools

Communication                Zoom, Webex, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet

Document creation and editing Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)

Project management     Smartsheets, Asana, Trello

Typically a substantial post consists of 5-7 sentences, and a peer response with 2-4 complete sentences. A substantial discussion forum response should make connections to course content, professional experiences, and personal experiences. In response to a peer, consider whether or not you have heard of this tool before. If not, what curiosities or questions do you have? Maybe you want to share information about your own tool.

Optional:Continue to hone your oral communication skills by submitting your discussion response as a 1-2 minute video or audio recording. Should you choose this option, you will be graded on your responses just as you would if you responded via text only. You will not be graded on your audio or video performance.
