Assignment 1: Plan and Develop a Short Test/Assessment

Weight: 25 % of your final Grade

Word limit: 1500 words (excluding references and appendix) +/- 200 words

Task Requirements:

1.      This is an individual task which will align with the main activities that you will do during weeks 1- 7.

2.      You will apply the RBT and write 18 Learning Objectives (LO) from one of your teaching subjects.  Primary teachers will choose Numeracy or Literacy as their subject. Ensure that each level of the RBT has three Learning Objectives (6 x 3 = 18). ECEC teachers will focus on 10 LOs only (focus on Literary and Numeracy). SIE teachers will develop only 5 LOs (focus on literacy and numeracy). 

3.      For each Learning Objective, you will explain: (i) why have you classified this learning objective as such, (ii) what kind of learning does this learning objective represent (HOLO vs LOLO), and why?, and (iii) which item format will be best to assess this learning objective, and why?

4.      You will then create a Table of Specification (TOS). In a paragraph or two, explain the key features of your TOS.

5.      Choose one LO from each level of the RBT (Remember, Understand, Apply, Analyse, and Evaluate) and write one test item for each LO (as planned in your TOS) (for SECONDARY and PRIMARY teachers only). ECEC and SIE teachers will think of developing short activities (you will need to describe the activities). ECEC and SIE teachers will design activities (short activities, at least 10 – one activity for each LO) that allow young children freedom to explore and learn from concrete materials (example, counting beads, measuring sticks etc). ECEC and SIE teachers will try and integrate literacy and numeracy into the children’s assessment activities.  

6.      Write a short (one paragraph) reflection on two important assessment knowledge learnt from engaging with this assignment (i.e., what are two new things you learnt?)

Marking Guide

Introduction to the assignment (2 marks) – clearly state the aim of the assignment and the outline of the assignment. Define any terms that you think is important for this assignment.

Apply the RBT (9 marks) – Writes 18 LOs by using the cognitive levels from the RBT and explains each LO’s classification (variation applies to ECEC and SIE).

TOS is created for a short test (4 marks): Summarises the main aspects of the test in a TOS and provides an explanation.

Item writing (5 marks): Writes five different types of items (using ideas learnt in module 4) (note variation for ECEC and SIE)

Reflection, Writing and referencing (5 marks): States two new learnings. Sums up the assignment well. Assignment contains very less writing and referencing issues. Use APA referencing style.
