BUS 210 Module Six Assignment Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
In this assignment, you will evaluate a current organizational structure and recommend structural changes that can help address the concerns the organization identified regarding collaboration, communication, and autonomy.
Scenario
You work for an organization that has traditionally been very formalized, and managers have had a very broad span of control over direct reports from multiple departments and functions. This worked well in the past; managers were able to oversee a high number of direct reports because there were many rules and regulations dictating how their work should be performed. However, there were downsides. Employee talent was underused, and there wasn’t a strong team culture, as most work was done independently according to standard operating processes.
Recently, the organization has been shifting to less formalized working structures to support more creative, innovative work and provide employees with more autonomy. While employees are happy with the purpose of these new changes, managers are feeling overwhelmed, and employees are feeling under supported. This has impacted function-specific work the most, because in the past, managers didn’t need to understand in-depth, function-specific tasks (such as the technical aspects of graphic design work or the intricacies of project management). Instead, they had the ability to rely on rules, regulations, and standard operating processes. Employees have also noticed a lack of communication around current projects, which has led to a lack of updated information and duplicated work across management teams.
You have been asked to work with the human resources department to recommend a new organizational structure that addresses these identified management and communication concerns.
Prompt
Use the Module Six Assignment Template located in the Guidelines for Submission section to create an updated organizational structure chart for the organization. Then, in a separate Word document, write a brief explanation for your recommended changes and how they will impact both organizational communication and overall team dynamics.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
· Updated Organizational Structure Chart: Create an updated organizational structure chart that addresses management and communication concerns.
· Explanation of Changes: Explain your reasoning for why you made the changes you did to the company’s organizational structure. Include how your changes differ from the original and why you believe they would benefit the organization.
· Impact on Organizational Communication: Describe the impact these changes will have on the company’s overall organizational communication.
· Impact on Team Communication: Describe the impact these changes will have on the company’s overall team communication and reporting structure.
What to Submit
Submit your completed Module Six Assignment Template PPT as a PPT file. Submit your separate, written submission as a 2- to 3-page Word document with 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, and one-inch margins.
A text-only version of the template is available: Module Six Assignment Template Text-Only Version Word Document. If you use this template, submit it as a Word file.

A major part of your coursework assessment is the group project. The goal of this project is to come up with an interesting business (or social, environmental, or political, etc.) problem (topic, trend, or issues) and solve (investigate, or elaborate) it using social media data. This will require you to carefully collect and analyse social media data using the knowledge, tools, and skills that you have developed in class. You will be required to produce evidence to support any of your claims. Your team will be required to submit a written report at the end of the semester.
Explanation & Examples
Ideally, we should be able to take away some generalisable lessons from your work. For example, in this blog post, using the data collected from Twitter using NodeXL, Khan (2016) analysed Malcolm Turnbull and Bill Shorten’s (Australia’s top two Prime Ministerial candidates at that time) Twitter presence to contrast and compare them in terms of interactivity, influence, and popularity. Khan (2016) found that over Twitter, Turnbull is more interactive and popular, whereas, Shorten is more influential.
You should choose an event (such as a news item) and try to study how it was reacted to in social media. For example, you might study a #tag on Twitter around a specific event (a conference, a global event, a trending TV show, a new product launch, or sporting event). Or you may research who are the key influencers? What are the customer perceptions of a brand and its competitors? The impact of key market events (e.g., competitive new product launches) on a brand, etc.
The only limitation is that ALL of your research and analysis must be conducted in English
Be creative! I encourage you to discuss your ideas with me, so we can iterate to a good project.
Keep in mind that you would not simply describe what happens (though that would be included), but also try to understand what your analysis of that one event means for understanding similar events more broadly (known as the generalisation of finding in academia).
Regardless of the topic you choose, your analysis must include some sort of visualisation of the data (e.g., network, heat-map, words cloud, etc. I personally prefer network visualisation).
Your Team
A team cannot have more than 6 or less than 4 members.
Tools
Through the semester you will be involved in comprehensive discussions and tutorials on how to obtain and analyse a variety of social media data (including network, text, hyperlinks, actions, search engine, geo-data, etc.). You are expected to use multiple different tools top prepare your report. So completing this assignment will only be limited by your imaginations.
Report Structure
A common structure for your report will be:
1. Title of the report and Abstract (a short summary up to 500 words)
2. Introduction section (what you want to investigate and why is it important to investigate?)
3. Research question (s) (what you want to know?)
4. Related work (an overview of the previous work that other researchers have work on similar topics if any; hint: search library online databases for research articles on your topic).
5. Methodology (How would you answer the research question(s)?)
6. Discussion (explain what you found and the broader lessons/recommendations that can be drawn from it).
7. Conclusions
8. Reference list: provide a full APA style reference list including hyperlinks for all and any resources used in your report. You should also provide the name of the tool used to conduct your analysis and to produce your visualisations (place this information near the images in your report).
Formatting Instructions
· The final report should be no more than 3,000 words (excluding tables and references),
· 12-point font for the main text, and 1.5 line spacing.
· 30mm margins all around,
· You may add figures and summary tables into the appendix, however I prefer that they are included in the body of your report. Large data tables should be presented in an appendix,
· Include page numbers, headings and subheadings to facilitate the review.
· Literature cited should follow APA style references both in text and in the reference list.
Grading
The paper will be graded based on the following criteria:
· Is the team focused on an interesting problem/question? (10%)
· To what extent the team succeeds in solving (elaborating) the issue with social media data? (30%)
· Is the report theoretically and methodologically sound? (20%)
· Does the report include meaningful visualisations of the data (20%)
· Writing composition (grammar, spelling, logic, and ease of reading) (10%)
· APA style references both in-text and as a complete reference list at the end of the report (10%)
You may NOT use any form of Ai to prepare your report or conduct your analysis – this includes ChatGPT (or similar), or any other writing, editing, or analysis tools aside from those used in your Lab Practicals.

Analyse organisational and management processes.
Critically appraise your perception of the leadership style of that person, AND examine ways how he or she may work to secure maximum motivation and performance of employees. How can you apply this person’s style to the way you will manage or lead people? Integrate your work with evidence in the literature. There should be no citations before 2022, other than primary references (not secondary) to seminal theoretical concepts.
To analyse organisational and management processes, it is important to assess the leadership style of a key figure within an organisation and examine how their approach influences employee motivation and performance. The focus here is on critically appraising your perception of this person’s leadership style and how it might inform your own leadership practices.
Leadership Style Appraisal
The individual in question demonstrates a transformational leadership style, characterised by their ability to inspire, energise, and challenge employees to exceed their standard performance levels. Transformational leaders are known for creating a vision that aligns with both the organisation`s goals and employees` personal growth, thereby fostering high motivation and engagement. A key aspect of this style is the leader’s focus on emotional intelligence, which allows them to understand and respond to the needs and emotions of their team members.
In this case, the leader’s approach to communication is particularly noteworthy. They maintain open, transparent communication channels, ensuring that employees feel informed and involved in decision-making processes. By empowering team members to contribute ideas and take ownership of their tasks, they cultivate a strong sense of commitment and loyalty.
Securing Maximum Motivation and Performance
To maximise motivation and performance, this leader employs several strategies that are supported by recent literature on organisational behaviour. First, they foster a culture of continuous development, providing ample opportunities for professional growth through training and mentorship. According to Ryan and Deci`s Self-Determination Theory (2022), autonomy, competence, and relatedness are key to intrinsic motivation. By focusing on employees` personal development, this leader effectively taps into these intrinsic motivators, driving higher performance and job satisfaction.
Moreover, the leader leverages recognition and rewards in a way that aligns with Equity Theory (Adams, 2022). They ensure that recognition is not only financial but also symbolic, offering verbal praise, public acknowledgment, and opportunities for career advancement. This balance of extrinsic and intrinsic rewards enhances employees` motivation by making them feel valued and appreciated.

ASSIGNMENT
Scenario
You are engaged by Corn Balls Ltd (“CBL”) from the UK to act as their Quantum Expert in a matter that they have with the principal Contractor, Mines R Us Ltd from Spain, in the construction of new facilities at a mine in Kenya.
The mine was constructed under the NEC3 Engineering & Construction Contract, June 2005 (with amendments June 2006), main Option A (Priced Contract with activity schedule).
The contract was terminated by Mines R Us Ltd, and they have valued the amounts outstanding at zero.
Corn Balls Ltd have valued the amount due on termination as R44 328 533.54.
Corn Balls Ltd entered into adjudication (as per the contract provisions) and the Adjudicator concluded that they had failed to bring forward one single jot of evidence and decided that zero should be awarded.
The adjudicator relied on the report in contravention of the Mines R Us expert who rebutted all of the claims made by Corn Balls Ltd.
Unfortunately, in the adjudication Corn Balls Ltd did not use a Quantum expert but in referring the matter to arbitration you are now engaged.
The expert for Mines R Us report rebutted each and every claim, this is included as attachment 01.
Your client wants to know what to supply in support of evidence and needs your guidance. The client relies on you to rebut the failure to bring forward one single jot of evidence
Task 1
- Determine from the NEC contract, the requirements for valuation of the works in the event of termination and provide a narrative on the process that is to be followed referring to the P procedures and R clauses (See Clause 90.2 from NEC3 contract). (350 words)
The particulars of contract are as follows:
Task 2
a. On 28 June 2017, CBL and MRU entered into a sub-contract (“the Contract”) for the execution of Works which included the modification of the existing tippler system, new conveyors, transfer houses, modifications of existing conveyors and infrastructure.
THE CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS
To the extent that the Contract is an NEC3 Engineering & Construction Contract, June 2005 (with amendments June 2006), main Option A (Priced Contract with activity schedule) with various secondary Options and as amended by additional Z clauses, this provides for the methodology of evaluation.
- The termination of the contract is valid, and you do not to consider the merits of it, you must however, provide your client with a proposed methodology for addressing the termination costs premised on; (250 words)
- On 26 July 2019, MRU issued a termination notice in accordance with clause 91.5 of the Contract.
- On 28 November 2019, CBL provided MRU with its final assessment of the amount due on termination.
- On 14 October 2020, CBL provided MRU with a ‘full’ breakdown of the amount claimed in the sum of R44 328 533.54.
Task 3
- Following the initial referral to adjudication it is MRU’s position that no/little money arises due to the failings in the substantiation provided. The Adjudicator agreed. You are engaged to provide an independent opinion on the validity of this statement. You are to agree or disagree with the report of the MRU expert and provide reasons thereof. (250 words)
Task 4
- Having decided that you can support the client’s claim you are tasked with responding to the submissions of the MRU expert in detail determining their credibility and rebutting them with points of law and/or authority. (900 words)
The focus of your response is to be on the claimed sums below. BASIS OF CLAIM. The summary of the amounts subjected to further evidential burden are below and you should refer to the MRU’s commentary on each (Please see report example provided with module 3 Lecture 7 that may assist you):

Task 5
- You must respond to and rebut this statement in your report to the client and consider how the valuation should be provided (in the primary and secondary position?); (500 words)
‘The issue of whether a compensation event should be calculated by reference to forecast costs or actual costs in an NEC3 contract was referred to the court for determination in a 2017 court case. Although the case related to a dispute under the NEC3 Professional Services Contract and was heard in the Northern Ireland Queen’s Bench Division (Commercial) the decision may be of some benefit to the current disputes, if not authority. The decision was supportive of the use of actual costs to assess the effect of compensation events.
Paragraph 35 of the Decision states:
‘Evidence, from time sheets and other material, of what the consultant actually did in that period, particularly with reference to the change in instructions, is not only relevant evidence but clearly the best evidence to assist the court in calculating the compensation to which the consultant is entitled.’
Mr. Bond says in his report, ’In my experience it is standard industry practice to support claims for costs of personnel or labour with breakdowns of the time expended (with timesheets that reference the activity undertaken) and hourly rates (supported by payroll information). It is also standard industry practice to support amounts claimed for materials or equipment supplied with invoices from suppliers.
Task 6
- You are tasked with providing your client with a conclusion on the rebuttal, your request for evidence and the correct method of calculating entitlement (the primary and/or secondary position) (250 words)
In your conclusion consider the following.
- You are not so sure on the concept of standard industry practice as this would result in all variations being valued to cost whereas the mechanisms of the traditional contract provide for the use of rates.
- Is this a matter for further debate in the submissions given that the NEC is an Option A Contract?
- MRU’s expert’s further point, ‘It is also consistent with the breakdowns and substantiation required by the SSCC when submitting and assessing Defined Cost’ has some place within the NEC Option A but it is not to detract from the efficacy with which the NEC is to be used.
- Further discussion on this alternative form of valuation should be robustly contended in the ensuing Referral, the conclusion of this aspect may well be MRU’s willingness to accept the NEC priced CE when confronted by higher actual costs having been incurred.
Task 7
- Provide advice to your client as to the merits and entitlement of the matter, you can make assumptions as to entitlement as you deem appropriate. However, the client is concerned that in the event of a positive award, MRU will not pay and wonders if this is all worth the effort? Advise CBL of their rights to secure the award (or not) and ensure payment thereafter. (250 words)
