Sarah, a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Maryland – College Park had spent Thanksgiving day with relatives at her grandparent’s farm. During her drive back to campus on Friday morning her vision became blurry, and she was forced to pull over to the side of the road. As she sat in her car, her vision worsened. She opened the car hood in hope of attracting aid and tried to relax. In a short time, a Maryland State Trooper pulled over and approached Sarah. By this time, Sarah was having trouble swallowing and speaking clearly. The officer helped Sarah to his car and rushed her to the emergency room at a nearby hospital.

In the ER, Sarah was able to describe her symptoms to a physician. The physician made note of what Sarah had eaten during the last 24 hours and was especially interested in the fact that Sarah’s grandmother canned all of her own vegetables. The physician observed that Sarah’s breathing was becoming labored. She ordered Sarah’s blood sampled, her stomach pumped, and a mechanical respirator prepared for use. Fearing that Sarah suffered from a case of botulism, she asked that Sarah’s grandparents be contacted and samples of the Thanksgiving meal retained, if possible, and sent to a local clinic for analysis.

Describe the causative microbial agent of botulism?

Why was the doctor interested in Grandma’s canned veggies?

What is the mechanism of action of botulinum toxin?

What is the treatment for botulism?

Develop a business case for an information technology  innovation Davinci Surgical System. In this assignment, the main objective is to explain the applications and features of a NEW technology to a business investor or a company and defend it using some criteria.

Next, develop  a business case that explains why your chosen technology (Davinci Surgical System )is a worthwhile investment. This could include a  cost-benefit analysis, a SWOT analysis, and an explanation of how the technology aligns with the company’s strategic goals or why it is a  profitable investment for a potential investor. You may also want to discuss any potential  risks and challenges associated with adopting the technology. To make your case even stronger, consider using some criteria to support your claims. This might include factors such as the technology’s potential market size, its competitive advantage over existing solutions, its potential to disrupt the industry, its scalability and ease of implementation, and its potential return on investment.

The required criteria and items for the new technology presentation:

    · Pick an audience for your presentation (it can be an investor or a company)

    · Briefly describe the industry context and any specific problem needing a technology solution.

    · Your technology solution: explain the innovative features: why is it an innovation? What is new about it?

    · Competitive analysis: why is it better than other alternatives?

    · How do you solve current issues using the new technology (any new business model or workflow?)

    · Why is it a reasonable investment? For instance, is managerial revenue more than costs?

    · Do a Feasibility study (Cost and benefit analysis)

    · Break-even point (estimated)

    · Defensible in a management meeting (Provide some statistics, financial and nonfinancial evidence, and proof in order to defend the technology in front of the management team. For instance, providing quantitative data to show how the technology can reduce errors and improve productivity?)

    · Consider the challenges and drivers.

    · Adoption and implementation issues

Create a PowerPoint presentation for this case with all the information.

First, reflect on a sentinel event that you know of personally, professionally, or have heard about in the media. Then, locate two research articles about preventing such an event. Lastly, critique the two articles. Follow the directions and grading criteria. **Reminder: Do not discuss any privileged information in this assignment (HIPAA, FERPA, etc.).

    Links to an external site.

A literature review is an objective, critical summary of published research literature relevant to a

topic under consideration for research. Its purpose is to create familiarity with current thinking and research on

a particular topic and may justify future research into a previously overlooked or understudied area.

****A literature review is more than just a summary of each article. It involves critically appraising the two articles and finding common themes, topics, etc. about the sentinel event. As you find those common themes among the two articles, then discuss those in the literature review. ****

Here’s a quick overview of how to identify research articles:

A scholarly, research article is written by the scientist(s) who actually did the research WITHIN the last five years (unless it was a historic study). If a resource is greater than 5 years from publication, a discussion with faculty is necessary.

The article follows a specific format

    abstract

    introduction

    materials & methods

    results

    conclusions

    references

A systematic review searches for the answer to a particular question in the existing scientific literature on a topic.

A meta-analysis compares and combines the findings of previously published studies, usually to assess the effectiveness of an intervention or mode of treatment.

Below are links to an article and PowerPoint from 2021 discussing Sentinel Events.

Select one Sentinel Event that has occurred in the last five years and locate two scholarly journal articles related to this type of event. Submit a literature review paper in APA format (see article “How to Write a Literature Review Paper” Preview the document Download “How to Write a Literature Review Paper”) and submit a PDF copy of both scholarly articles that were used for this review, along with your paper under the submission link. Please review the grading rubric for specific requirements.

NOTE***This is not a paper regarding a sentinel event. This is a paper critically appraising the research articles you chose about the type of sentinel event. Discuss the research articles, not the event.

Prompt: You have been granted a budget to implement ISO 26000 guidelines in the organization you selected for the course project. Using the ISO 26000 framework:

      · Assess your selected organization’s readiness to implementing the guidelines.

      · Determine whether the current organizational strategies align with your vision for the ISO 26000 guidelines. Support your perspective with specific examples.

Respond to at least two peers and comment on what you learned about the challenges of implementing the guidelines by reading their posts. Specifically, what leadership and/or organizational culture changes may need to be made to support effective implementation of your peers’ guidelines?

      Post for Response #1 Below-

      Amanda—

      Hello Everyone,

The organization I chose for my final project is my current employer, East Penn manufacturing. We currently utilize a system very similar to the ISO 26000. This system allows HR to keep track of employment turnover rates, satisfaction, years of service, and ensures we are meeting equity, diversion, and inclusion standards. The business office also utilizes this feature to track consumer satisfaction and price points for comparison, financial performance of all products offered and a charting system that shows product reliability and demand.

In my opinion, the current vision of the company does align with the organizational strategies that they have had implemented prior to the start of using this system. East Penn has been a large contributing factor for the local organization United Way for decades and also promotes environmentally friendly materials and sustainable products. They have also been named one of Pennsylvania’s Top rated employers for the last twenty years because of everything they offer for employees and community members. This is all mentioned in their website which I encourage you all to visit and browse through. I am proud to be a training leader with this company and look forward to utilizing my degree to move further up in the company. Have a great week everyone!

The company I selected for my course project is Russell Stover. They are one of the best-known chocolate manufacturers in the United States. Lindt & Sprüngli acquired the company in 2014, strengthening its presence in the North American market. Lindt & Spungli use the EcoVadis approach to assess the sustainability performance of direct and indirect suppliers for 13 main subsidiaries. In 2022, they increased their supplier assessment scale from 466 to 581, accounting for 52% of our total Group expenditure. The assessment is based on 21 criteria and includes four areas: the environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

EcoVadis considers material industry concerns, risk country presence, supplier size, and geographical scope. In addition, the evaluation looks at “international sustainability standards such as the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, the ILO conventions, the GRI Standards, the  ISO 26000 standard, the CERES Roadmap, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.” Their suppliers scored an average of 54.6 out of 100, up 1.8 points from 2021. The average expenditure-weighted score was 55.8. Companies with ratings below 45 will receive annual requests for corrective actions and reassessments. Regardless of the score, each supplier receives a customized corrective action plan outlining our expectations for each criterion and training support via the EcoVadis Academy.

The current organizational strategies align with my vision for the ISO 26000 guidelines. This aligns with my vision for ISO guidelines because they use not only ISO 26000 but also many other ways to assess their sustainability, for example, the EcoVadis approach. The EcoVadis approach assesses the sustainability performance of direct and indirect suppliers for 13 main subsidiaries.

you will assess how the general public’s perception of healthcare quality is influenced by the mass media.

Locate an article that reports on the quality of healthcare services. The article must be sourced from the mass media and not from an academic or healthcare journal. The purpose of this assignment is to review information reported to the general public in a news source that does not exclusively cover healthcare issues. Weekly magazines, such as Time, Newsweek, US News and World Report, Forbes, Money, and Consumer Reports, and newspapers, such as the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, would be appropriate choices. The article may give various examples of good or bad quality instead of covering just one episode of care. Your selected article must be a comprehensive review or assessment of some aspect of healthcare services. Summarize the article. Be certain to indicate the basis for the report, that is, whether it is the result of academic research, an independent investigation, or something else.

      Answer the following questions.

      • Summarize what conditions, processes, or events are noted as good quality or poor quality healthcare in the article. What is your own assessment of these conditions, processes, or events? Explain.
      • Does the article assign responsibility to persons or processes for the problems or achievements it reports? Does it provide sufficient evidence for assigning responsibility? Explain your answers.
      • Assess the suggestions for healthcare quality improvement in the article.
Explain your reaction to this article as a consumer of healthcare services. In answering this question, note how the article uses language and any persuasive techniques.
      • Explain your reaction to this article as a provider of healthcare services. Why is this reaction the same as or different from your reaction as a consumer?
      • Is the article fair in its reporting and assessing healthcare quality? Why or why not?

respond to the two responses in 5-6 sentences
