Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery students must adhere to the following academicwriting requirements for all written assignments:

1.Format:

  • Assignments must include a header or footer which includes student name, ID number, course and assignment name or number
  • Use plain fonts such as Arial or Calibri (avoid light fonts)
  • Use a font size of no less than 11
  • Use5linespacing
  • Set margins at 5cm, left margin aligned
  • Number the pages
  • Structured according to the course assessment instructions (e.g., headings, use of template)

2.Relevance:

  • Assignment content is relevant, demonstrates students own knowledge synthesis and voice (refer to relevantassessment marking feedback form or rubric)
  • Comprehensive coverage of the topic showing a good understanding of course content, course readings (including textbooks) and other relevant materials

3.Expression:andacademicstyle

  • Information and ideas are logically planned, well organised and sequenced
  • The writing expresses ideas and information clearly and is expanded upon using highly relevant evidence and/or examples
  • Correctly structured paragraphs and sentences
  • The grammar, spelling and punctuation are correct
  • Clear and concise sentences; avoid use ofnon-academiclanguage(e.g., contractions,phrasalverbs&informal language)
  • Use of inclusivelanguage(e.g.,avoidmanpoweranduseworkforceinstead)
  • The language used adheres to program conventions i.e., person centred in nursing and woman centred in midwifery
  • Writing styleshouldmatchthetask(e.g.,reflectivewriting,summaryetc)

4.Referencing/supportingdocumentation:

  • Uses a comprehensive range of relevant and scholarly sources
  • All claims / ideas must be supported withcredibleevidence
  • Paraphrase andintegratesourcesin-textcorrectlyandeffectively
  • Recency of literature: check course instructions for recency of literature requirements (e.g., it may vary between 5 and 10 years depending on the task)
  • The reference list is correctly presented on a separate page(s) at the end of the assignment usingAPA7referencing style
  • The reference list comes before any appendices (e.g., tables, diagrams, or charts)

5.Quotes:

  • There is minimal use of direct Direct quotes are used when the exact words have a greater impact than to paraphrase same. For example, when providing:
  • a definition, a well-known or historically significant statement, a significant thought from an authority, a unique or memorable idea, a controversial or conflicting idea, a position or argument to critique or comment on, statistics or technical data
    • If direct quotes are used to support ideas in an assignment, these quotes are included in the word count
    • Paraphrasingispreferredwherepossibleasthisdemonstratesyouhaveunderstoodthe ideaorconcept
    • The Turnitin report will highlight all quotedEnsure that quotation marks have been added and a reference provided

6.Wordcount:

  • The assignment adheres to the set word count, allowing for plus or minus 10%
  • The word count for an assignment includes allin-textreferences
  • The word count for an assignment excludes any title page, table of contents, tables, figures, reference list, appendices, and feedback form.

7.Submission:

  • Assignments are submitted via the course learn online site unless otherwise instructed
  • Assignments must be submitted as a Word file not as a PDF unless otherwise directed

8.Generativeartificialintelligence(GenAI)

  • Academcis conduct can include presenting and/or submitting academic work for assessment or review produced through generative artificial intelligence tools (UniSA ab-69AI policy).
  • Specific assessment requirements provided in the Course OutlinemaypermituseofGenAI (UniSAab-69AIpolicy,2). Follow the assignment instructions carefully for the level of AI integration permitted to ensure correct academic integrity procedures are followed.
  • Where Gen AI is permitted, students must acknowledge its use as instructed in the Course Outline, (for example, AI model used, tools and/or prompts used; describing how the tool is integrated into the assignment as per any specific instructions).
  • When unsure if or how to acknowledge the use of Gen AI please seek guidance from course coordinators
