BUS 499

In this course you will take on the role of a business consultant to help a company solve a problem or capitalize on an opportunity. The first step is to select the company you will use for your assignments.

Preview the instructions for the assignments in Weeks 3, 6, and 9 in the course guide. This will help you as you make your company selection.

Think of a company you would like to work for or a company in an industry that interests you. You may select a publicly traded company, a small business, a non-profit, or a local or federal government entity (Note: You may not select: Amazon, Google, Apple, Netflix, Target, Walmart, Disney or Microsoft). If you choose a local/small business, much of the data you need to gather will come from interviews either in person, by email, or over the phone.

Introduce yourself to your classmates and share some of the knowledge and skills from your business program journey that you could leverage in your role as a business consultant. (Note: Think about the S-Curve for businesses and the importance of innovation and adaptation to change.)

Identify the company you have selected. When were they founded?

What is the mission and vision of the company? What do they do, and who do they serve? What industry does the company serve? (Be concise)

Why did you choose this company?

Provide a substantive response to one or more of your classmates. You are encouraged to ask questions to help each other in refining this part of your assignment.

Hi Everyone,

I am Jandice and this is my last semester before I receive my bachelor’s degree I am expecting to have my baby in July. I am so excited to be a part of this class to learn more about my degree. The company I work for is Richmond County Board of Education.

The company I will love to work for is Richmond County Board of Education as a Human Resource Chief one day. It is run by the Richmond County Board of Education which, under Article VIII, § V, Paragraph 2, requires that each school system be under the management and control of an elected board of education. As elected Constitutional officials of Georgia, the school board members are responsible for setting educational policies, employing school personnel, providing buildings and equipment, operating a transportation system, and disbursing school funds. It serves and the south Richmond County cities of Hephzibah and Blythe. The system has an enrollment of around 32,000 students, attending 36 elementary ten middle school eight high school four Magaret schools and three other schools. The school board has its own police department which provides law enforcement services to all the district’s schools.

The vision is one that is held by every member of our learning community – our students and parents, staff and our community partners. It drives us to constantly strive for excellence. It leads us to see potential in all and to ensure a positive, engaging and inspirational learning environment filled with potential and possibilities. We are proud of the education we provide, and we encourage all members of the district to be both learners and leaders.

I have chosen this company because of the background, and I love to help children and parents out to make sure everyone is giving the service they deserved. This company helps not long students, but it gives employees everything you can think of. I have work with this company for 3 year and can’t wait to be in the human resource department to do what I love best.

What comes to mind when you think of a brand? Most people would agree that:

Great brands can’t be everything to all people, they target an audience; and

The best brands are driven by purpose and values to create customer loyalty.

Find an example of an organizational brand. Some examples could include Starbucks, Patagonia, Nike, Apple, or any organization you choose.

What do the keywords in their tagline or branding statement reveal about the strengths of the organization, or what makes it unique?

When you think about creating a personal brand, what similarities and differences do you see between an organizational brand and a personal brand?

Hello Class ,

Nike as an example of an organizational brand. Nike’s tagline is “Just Do It.” This tagline reveals the organization’s core values of determination, motivation, and pushing boundaries. It highlights Nike’s focus on empowering athletes and individuals to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.

The strength of Nike’s brand lies in its ability to connect with consumers on an emotional level by inspiring them to pursue their passions and dreams. The tagline also reflects Nike’s commitment to innovation and excellence in its products and services.

When creating a personal brand, I find inspiration from organizational brands like Nike by identifying their core values, strengths, and unique qualities. Just like an organizational brand, a personal brand should be authentic, memorable, and resonate with the target audience.

Some commonalities between organizational and personal branding include establishing a clear identity, building trust and credibility, and communicating a compelling message. However, personal branding allows individuals to showcase their personality, values, and expertise in a way that is unique to them, creating a strong personal connection with their audience.

Overall, both organizational and personal brands aim to differentiate themselves from competitors, create a positive reputation, and build long-lasting relationships with their customers or followers.
