The 901 Junior Scholars is a year-round enrichment program for 6th & 7th grade youth. This program is offered under the Memphis Office of Youth Services umbrella and employs across the City of Memphis in each of the council districts. Our mission is to begin the empowerment process with the 6th and 7th grade youth and help build a foundation for them to achieve and maintain academic success.

Our sites meet three times a week for an hour and a half after school. We focus on Math, ELA, and Science. Participants would need to bring homework, classwork, or failed test for youth specialists to work on. There are virtual intervention calls between 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for participants to receive additional help with homework, projects, classwork, or any other needs.

Parents are required to attend monthly parent meetings that detail the month’s requirements and program updates. Participants will be required to complete community service. Participants can receive a monthly stipend as an incentive based on their attendance and participation.

During the summer, we host a Summer Leadership Academy for our incoming 6th and 7th grade participants. Summer Leadership academy is 3-weeks of academic enrichment and life-skills, such as, financial literacy, conflict resolution, bullying prevention, and so much more. This provides students an opportunity to retain information they have learned during the school year and decreases the risk of summer slide or summer learning loss.
