Policy Brief Assignment
This assignment requires to produce a policy brief on Canadian Federalism challenges. You can choose any one challenge that Canadian Federalism faces.
The form to be taken by policy briefs must be that adopted by the International Association of Genocide Scholars. The guidelines and a sample policy brief has been attached. Please follow the instructions properly.
Pictures to be attached as well (as should in the sample brief)
Policy briefs are not lengthy (max. 2-3 pages), but they must clearly and concisely
(a) introduce the topic,
(b) survey relevant positions, positions already taken on that challenge
(c) recommend some course of action. What should be done, what action should be taken.
The intended audience of policy briefs includes policymakers, those working for businesses and NGOs, academics, and practitioners of other disciplines.
Briefs, therefore, cannot use language that is too specialized, nor should their authors assume that their readership will be homogenous. Try to think of your brief as a kind of advertisement or commercial for a solution you’d like to recommend in response to an issue that you care about, and which you’d like to explain briefly to others who may be able to do something about.
