This assignment is designed to assess your ability to apply the material from assigned readings, videos, lecture discussions, and existing peer-reviewed experimental research studies to the field of Communication Science and Disorders. This project will require you to review a documentary that features an individual with a communication disorder. After viewing the film, you will provide a summary that includes an informed commentary on the portrayal of the communication disorder and the impact of the communication disorder on the featured individual as well as its impact on others (family, friends, caregivers, etc…) in the film. Next, you will read and summarize a related peer-reviewed research article in the field of Communication Science and Disorders that focuses on the treatment or counseling of the communication disorder portrayed in your film. The summary should be briefly review major findings that relate to your film, its main character, or the main character’s family and/or primary communication partners. In your final discussion, you will make connections between how the research supports treatment and/or counseling for the communication disorder and the observations you made about the film. The paper should be written using APA formatting guidelines and be no more than 4 pages in length (not including the cover page).
