JOB COMPETENCIES AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE
Read the assigned pages in Designing Organizations: Strategy, Structure, and Process at the Business Unit and Enterprise Levels. Reflect on the importance of ensuring the organization’s workforce has the skill sets and mind-sets to successfully execute the strategy.
Bring to mind the organization that you selected in Module 1. Identify one new job position that may need to be filled, or an existing job position that may need to be re-designed, given the recommendations you made about the organization’s design in previous weeks.
Visit the O*NET website and use the search feature to find occupations related to the job position that you identified. Use the search results to identify KSAOs (knowledge, skills, abilities, or other competencies) that are necessary to be successful in the job position. Be sure that the KSAOs align to the organization’s new strategy.
Read the chapter, “Managing Human Resources” in Business Foundations: A Changing World and the article, “The Evolution of Performance Management: Searching for Value.” Think about how you will objectively measure performance in relation to one of the KSAOs you identified.
Submit a paper that addresses the following:
Identify the organization that you selected in Module 1.
Describe one new job position that may need to be filled, or an existing job position that may need to be re-designed, given the recommendations you made about the organization’s design in previous weeks.
Briefly describe three KSAOs that are necessary to be successful in the job position you described, and explain why. In addition, explain how the KSAOs align to the organization’s new strategy.
Explain how you would measure performance in relation to each of the KSAOs. Be sure to include at least one example of an objective metric you would collect to evaluate performance for each of the KSAOs. The metric should be tied to the organization’s new strategy.
