COM200 Communication: The Key to Work
Week 2 Discussion
Active listening helps us communicate effectively and resolve conflicts in the workplace. However, distractions such as mobile devices, text messages, social media, and emails may impact our ability to actively listen to others.
Choose one of the options below. Then, thoroughly explain why active listening is critical to success in this area. You may want to refer to active listening strategies you have learned about throughout this course. Think about and share how active listening skills can help you be a better manager or coworker in the area you selected.
Building professional relationships.
Decreasing misunderstandings.
Increasing productivity.
Typically a substantial post consists of 5-7 sentences, and a peer response with 2-4 complete sentences. A substantial discussion forum response should make connections to course content, professional experiences, and personal experiences. In response to a peer, consider sharing your own tips for becoming a better listener in the workplace.
Optional: Continue to hone your oral communication skills by submitting your discussion response as a 1-2 minute video or audio recording. Should you choose this option, you will be graded on your responses just as you would if you responded via text only. You will not be graded on your audio or video performance.
